Try to imagine two exporters of British music industry that moves in two different genres, then both join to form a musical production work together. You do not need to be tired to imagine it because now a reliable DJ from Scotland, Calvin Harris joined with eccentric vocalist Florence + The Machine, Florence Welch, who seems to have built a unique chemistry. The end result was "Sweet Nothing", a classic 80-90s disco singwe coupled with beat pulsing dominating the center of the song, which managed to shift the Swedish House Mafia's position as the ruler of UK Official Charts in mid-October.
Although this single sounds the same pattern as Calvin Harris's previous collaboration singles, I think Calvin Harris's role here is pretty clever. Maximizing his role as an instrument executor, Harris knows very well how to put the portion of his game dominance so that Florence Welch's vocals can sound powerful. Moreover, coupled with a thick bass makes this single more and more have a thick groove.
In fact, the chord progressions of this song are unremarkable, and the truth is that the whole song does not make the listener say "wow" (while the koprol is possible), but it is very true that Florence Welch really understands the message he wants to carry through this song this part of the song reminds me of Bjork). Unfortunately sometimes the use of beat-beat or instrument used by Harris does not support the dynamics of songs that are built. But, it's okay though. At least the music lovers still feel the dynamics of the song through Florence Welch vocals are dark and unique as usual.
So in conclusion, this single is interesting, but not as interesting as you expect. What I love about this single is the ego harmony between Florence Welch and Calvin Harris so it can be said that this single sounds like not a single "featuring", but like a single duet. And it seems the reception about this single is also good in the music lovers ears. Being number 1 on the UK Official Chart and receiving a good critical review in the eyes of music critics seems to be a solid proof that supports the reception. So check out this single, and feel that this single will not create "sweet nothing" in your ears.

LYRIC
You took my heart and you held it in your mouth
And, with a word all my love came rushing out
And, every whisper, it’s the worst, emptied out by a single word
There is a hollow in me now
So I put my faith in something unknown
I’m living on such sweet nothing
But I’m trying to hope with nothing to hold
I’m living on such sweet nothing
And it’s hard to learn
And it’s hard to love
When you’re giving me such sweet nothing
Sweet nothing, sweet nothing
You’re giving me such sweet nothing
[Beat break]
It isn’t easy for me to let it go
Cause
I’ve swallow every single word
And
Every whisper, every sigh
Eats away at this heart of mine
And there is a hollow in me now
So I put my faith in something unknown
I’m living on such sweet nothing
But I’m trying to hope with nothing to hold
I’m living on such sweet nothing
And it’s hard to learn
And it’s hard to love
When you’re giving me such sweet nothing
Sweet nothing, sweet nothing
You’re giving me such sweet nothing
[Beat break]
And it’s not enough
To tell me that you care
When, we both know the words are empty air
You give me nothing
Uoooh
Uoooh
Uoooh
Nothing
[Beat break]
Uoooh
Uoooh
Uoooh
Sweet Nothing
Uoooh
Uoooh
Uoooh
Sweet Nothing
