Hip hop music, in my opinion, used to make waves. Message songs have now been reduced to a dope beat (no lie) and a "catchy" dance. However, to a true artist, you can notice the depletion of message songs and the replacement of songs that are not so subtle in regards to sex. With all understanding that sex sells put aside, there are very few artists making historical waves, benefits our children can reap. Instead, our children have no hope of conscientiously consenting to sexual activites themselves, being swayed by, to their young eyes, the novelty of the act of sex that they see on a regular basis in this American society. Yet, I digress, my point is the art. The beautiful passion of music where the Whitney Houston's, Tupac, B.I.G. and so on of the world get left behind for...dare I say...mediocrity. Great songs for the times, just not saying anything. Not empowering. Radio hits i mean, for the most part, generalized music. Some music does slip through the cracks and those should be publicized. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good artists out there. I just yearn for masterpieces from the artist. There are a good amount of things going on that could be addressed besides sex, money and possessions. The leaders, which, we lack thereof.
