It’s been 20+ years since I’ve seen this band. The first time I saw them was at the International Ballroom in Houston. They didn’t go on until 4:00am. We’ve all gotten a bit older and wiser, including the band. This year’s show started much earlier in the evening 11:30ish? and ran until 2:00am sharp.
I’d had an extremely long week working down at the Great American Beer Festival. Things worked out fine in the end, but my day started at 8:00am and included two 4-hour beerfests, almost back to back(that’s another story). I had a Larkburger at mid-day and then a banana and some walnuts for dinner. We departed the second beer festival a bit early so that we could go by the hotel to drop off our things and head out in a cab for the night. My phone recorded 21,000 steps over the course of Saturday, before we even headed out to go dancing.
I'd met up with some old dear friends which made the evening even better. While we were standing in line at the venue, the opening DJ's set started. The warehouse breathed the wub-wub-wub sound as the bass bins were fired up and the crowd outside the venue cheered and hollered outloud... Showtime.
I’d never heard of WORTHY, but he had a great opening DJ set. I danced from his first song to his last. He was really great throughout his entire set.
Once he ended his set, the stage got dark and the fog started flowing. We found an uncrowded spot on the side of the stage where I filmed my shaky iPhone video until my phone inevitably died. It was just as well. Mobile phone videos have gotten better over the years but will never replace the live experience. Go see this band if you ever have the opportunity. They put on a great show and the music is beautiful. There was plenty more to see and hear than I was able to capture, so be sure to seek out other sources on the web. I felt like there were at least 4 or 5 more songs I wanted to hear when the show abruptly ended at 2:00 am. My phone had been dead for a while so I had no idea what time it was.
We debated heading out to the after-party, but ended up catching a Lyft back to the hotel for a well earned nights rest.
