As a Gen X child we've lived through changes that other generations have a hard time understanding. We were the generation that adopted the internet, analog to digital media, and synths!
While synthesizers came out in the 60's it wasn't until the 80's that they exploded into music. Something about the synths from the late 70's - early 80's is my sweet spot. A combination of pads, trippy, low quality vocal samples and spacey synths bring me back to my childhood. Few bands can get that mixture right to me, Boards of Canada being a great example.
The Upbeats and Shapeshifter were able to pull it off in a tune called Aotea, named after the island just outside of Auckland, New Zealand they went to to produce it. You can see that video in my post 2 days ago.
