This theme was kicked off by who has a vast collection of t-shirts, mainly from concerts, that he likes to write about. See his latest here. This shirt links in with him as you shall see.
I have written about The Fierce and the Dead a few times as they happen to be one of my favourite bands. The band evolved out of a recording session by Matt Stevens. He was doing a lot of looped acoustic guitar, but TFATD (as they are abbreviated) are into loud electric guitars, driving bass and manic drums. No vocals though. I have seen Matt do solo shows a couple of times and TFATD at least five times and I had a ticket for another gig that I could not get to.
I got this shirt just before I saw them the first time. That was at the launch of their Spooky Action album. I was working with at the time and persuaded him to have a listen. He bought the album too and came along to the gig with me. It was an odd gig that took place in part of the University of London. There was no stage, just a big space with the band on one side. There were a couple of support bands whose names I cannot recall. I know TFATD rocked well and I got to say hi to Matt. We also went to see them around the same time at a pub in Harlesden. That was also a little odd as the stage is in a sort of pit at the back of the pub with the audience looking down on it. The evening had a couple of 'math rock' bands kicking it off. I am not sure TFATD fit in that genre. I have seen them described as post rock, whatever that is.
This picture is from the latter gig where they used a lot of projections.
I have most of their CD releases with several being signed. It may well be that an unsigned copy is actually rarer! I have also ordered their latest live album which will also be signed.
Of course I would love to see the band get onto Steem, but I know they are really busy and it can be enough work maintaining their existing social media. Maybe they can be persuaded at some point that it is worth joining.
Here they are playing the album's title track at a later gig in a typically small London venue. I think it is The Black Heart where I saw them play another time.
Does anyone else have any stories to tell us for #ShirtOnSunday? It can really be about anything you have a shirt for.
