First of all, have you voted for Steem to be on Netcoins? It's leading, but we need to push until the end to be sure of achieving this. It's the last day to vote.
#Alternative weekend was started by as a place to post music outside the mainstream. Here's his latest post about The Smiths.
I've gone for something different this time and it's not music I really know that much about. I was watching this programme last night where two members of the band New Order talked about music they had enjoyed over the years. It was really good. One of the bands featured was Can and that led me down the path of looking at other so-called Krautrock from the 1970s. Apparently some of the bands preferred to call it Cosmic Music, but British DJs like John Peel gave it another name as many of the bands were German.
Can - Paperhouse
This is one of those bands I've heard a lot about, but just haven't listened to that much. Now we have Youtube and Spotify that open up a world of music to everyone. Can started in the late 1960s, which was a very inventive time for music. As with the others featured I've picked out a random song I found, so there may well be better stuff out there.
Faust - Jennifer
I heard about Faust from a guy who ran an African drumming class I went to. He had very eclectic tastes. This reminds me of things like the Velvet Underground. Is that Art Rock? I really don't know as there are so many genres. I think there was a bit of rebellion against standard pop and rock music that this may have been part of.
Tangerine Dream - Thru Metamorphic Rocks
I heard of Tangerine Dream when I was fairly young. I remember a family friend being into them, but I was too young to appreciate them. I'm surprised I didn't get into them later as there's similarities with acts like Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield and Jean Michel Jarre who I liked. I had to search around for a shorter track. There are lots of long concert videos and whole albums on Youtube. I'm sure a lot of that is not official and I don't know how people get away with it when I can get a warning for a cover version. Anyway, there's plenty to check out.
You can actually see what music I've been listening to on last.fm that has logged most of my listening over the last 14 years. You can also see what I've been buying on Bandcamp. There's so much music that doesn't get played on the radio. We just have to find it.
