This is another post inspired by the #Alternative theme kicked off by . The idea is to feature some non-mainstream music that you enjoy.
This week I am going for instrumental music. Not everyone is a singer and sometimes you do not need words to express or inspire emotions.
The Fierce and the Dead - Dancing Robots
This is a band I have followed since they started. I have seen them live numerous times and they always put on a good show. They do have two words of lyrics in one song, but that was just a prompt to remind them where it changes. They have been talking about work on their next album that may include vocals.
You can find and buy their music on Bandcamp.
Zoë Keating - Possible
This is a performer I would love to see live. It is all just her with her cello and looper. She building amazing soundscapes. This video starts with her walking through King's Cross Station in London where I have been many times. The performance is at King's Place which is very close by.
Zoë is also on Bandcamp. I have bought lots of music there.
Bryan Beller - Sweet Water
I have seen Bryan play with his band The Aristocrats. This track from his album Scenes From The Flood features his bandmate Guthrie Govan on guitar. I detect some elements of Gary Moore in this, but the playing is just sublime. It really takes off about five minutes in.
You may not be surprised to hear that Bryan is also on Bandcamp. Bit of a theme going on here.
Arcade Messiah - Sun Exile
This is a project by the prolific John Bassett. Yes it is on Bandcamp too. I think there has been one vocal performance across the several albums. He has put out another one this year that I need to get. I have a signed copy of one album that I got through Bandcamp. I am sounding like a shill for that site, but I know musicians like it for giving them a decent share of the money and allowing for selling special editions and merchandise. I have plans to put out my own album soon and I will put it on there. Stay tuned for that.
Have a great weekend!
