The musical collective known as the Arlesey Jammers have resorted to online open mic sessions due to the current situation. Even if venues are open some people are wary of mixing with crowds for now. We had one last night where people uploaded videos and we watched them together via Zoom. Rather than re-using old videos I decided to record some new ones.
Quite a few years ago I learnt to play piano at evening classes. There used to be quite a few music lessons there, but I am not sure that is so common now. I did others for guitar and jazz improvisation. To practice piano I bought a cheap Casio keyboard that has been propped up in a corner for ages. I dragged it out to have a play and found I could actually remember a few tunes. This one was from a book called Microjazz. Due to the nerve damage in my right hand I cannot spread my fingers very much and so than makes piano playing tricky, but I had a go for the fun of it.
Going even further back I had classical guitar lessons as a kid. I sold the guitar I had for that ages ago, but acquired a Yamaha classical that my dad bought when he took it up a few years ago. I do not play it very much as I have other guitars that suit my style better. Now and again I get out some of the classical pieces which this guitar is good for. It is a different skill to what I normally play. In this case I did a version of a popular tune you may recognise. I think the nylon strings make for a nice sound.
I do play my Tanglewood ukulele a fair bit and ended with a song I have played a lot at pub sessions.
My friend also performed last night. He is posting his music, art and poetry on Hive. I will see if some others want to join up.
Rock on!
