I've been helping to run an open mic night at our local pub for a few years. It's really handy for me as it's a short walk away. If you like making music then I would really encourage you to do something like this. I know pubs can struggle these days and filling the place with musicians and friends helps them out. We don't get paid, but then we get the venue for free. It helps if someone has a PA system. This month the numbers were down a bit as some didn't want to brave the snowy roads and I don't blame them. A couple did make it from outside the village, so we started with six musicians.
There was another guitar and a ukulele around. One guy brought his electric too.
We just set up in a corner of the pub with a couple of microphones and then just plug in our instruments. There were a few duets as well as solo spots. A couple of the audience joined in on some and another guy turned up near the end to jam on some blues and play some songs.
I don't have any video as I like to just enjoy the performances, but others posted some stuff on Facebook. This is a song I did. I saw something online about someone singing Pinball Wizard to the tune of Folsom Prison Blues and I knew exactly how it would sound. I just had to have a go.
This was me doing some extra guitar on a Soft Cell cover. A lot of the collaborations are not really planned. They don't always totally work, but are fun anyway.
I left sometime after midnight after helping to pack up. Everyone made it home safely. If any of you anywhere near Arlesey then you would be very welcome. We are at the White Horse every Wednesday for an acoustic session.
Rock on!
I'll buy guitar picks for Steem Dollars
