I just got my last.fm listening report for last year. It's not too surprising. You can see that I was listening to a lotmore music in early 2017 as I used to listen a lot at work, but then I changed jobs and I do that less now. I've only averaged about five tracks a day this year. I don't listen to much music radio, so even that would not increase the average by much.
I've been on last.fm for almost 15 years now. It's a service that was previously called Audioscrobbler. By using music apps that support their protocol you can log just about everything you listen to. I've used it with various software such as VLC, Amarok and Banshee (mostly on Linux). There's an Android app and also browser plug-ins that can log things like Youtube. I think Spotify supports last.fm directly.
I like stats and this service gives me plenty of them. I'm not surprised that the top artist is The Fierce and the Dead. I've been to see this post rock band a few times with . Steven Wilson is another favourite. There's a reason Stray Cat Strut got a lot of plays. I was learning to play it with my band and so I watched the video a few times.
It seems my top genres are rock, progressive rock, alternative rock, alternative and classic rock. Exactly what I would expect, but I also listen to jazz and classical music. My tastes are quite varied.
I really need to check out more new music this year. It's a matter of making the time for it. I've not used Spotify much, but maybe I need to get back into it to see what it finds for me. I've bought a lot of music on Bandcamp over the last few years and I hope to do more of that as the artists get a good share. It would be cool to have a version of that built on Steem as I'm happy to spend some of what I make here on music.
I'm sure 2019 will be very musical for me anyway as I'll keep doing my pub sessions. In fact I have an open mic session tonight, so I'd better get down there!
