I am back for another Sonic Groove Live. It is strange to think that the UK will finally leave the EU tomorrow night after years of bitter argument. I still think the referendum was badly organised. They should have needed a bigger majority for such a disruptive change and many lies were told to influence the vote. There were efforts to get another vote, but somehow we ended up with the Tories having an even bigger majority and they could do what they want. So we will just have to make the best of the situation. As someone who has lived in Germany and has many friends from across Europe I want to apologise, but this little song tries to sum up how I feel.
Au Revoir EU
So Boris got his ambitions
To be prime minister make Brexit happen
He says that is the end of it
And we should all be mates
But some of us didn't want to go
And we'd like to let our neighbours know
That we're still thinking of them
And so we'll remain friends
So it's not goodbye it's au revoir
Auf wiedersehen my fine amigo
We've had some disagreements in the past
We've worked together to keep the peace
Free movement made for new friendships
And opportunities blossomed
Now I am very proud to be British
But Britannia no longer rules the waves
We're an island of traditions
But must see the world has changed
You have to be realistic
About whether you're really great
We need to work together
And not let friendships disintegrate
So let's stay in touch with our nearest neighbours
Keep the ties that we've made alive
The politics may be a mess
But that doesn't mean we love you less
It's people who really matter
And we'll still be just offshore
It's not about flags and anthems
Or the name of your currency
There's no perfect political system
But make the best of what you've got
So from the Arctic to the blue Med
Across mountain, field and beach
Keep sharing our rich culture
And let the hand of friendship reach
So from London to Paris and Berlin
Oslo, Vienna and Rome
We'll no longer fly the golden stars
But we can get together in pubs and bars
Oh Europe we can still love you
And we hope that you can love us too
