And the all mighty today is OTT by Xfer Records.
OTT is a Multiband Upwards and Downwards Compressor. In other words it can act as a compressor and as an expander which is the opposite of compression.
Xfer describes it as a "a re-creation of a popular aggressive multiband upwards / downwards compressor setting used by many dubstep and electro producers"
This Compressor is looking a little bit different then traditional compressors we used to. It can act as an exciter or harmonics enhancer.
OTT is used by almost every respected EDM producer. Because it's simple and it's literally does magic.
Lets go over the controls real quick and then i prepared some musical samples for you.On the top you'll see 4 knobs
1. Depth - This is the main knob you're gonna work with. It is responsible for the compression and for the excitement of the bands. It can get to extreme levels if it goes above 25-35%. So use it with caution.
2. Time - This control is responsible for the dynamics of the compressor, it is the Attack and Release control. When the precentages are high it means slower attack and release. When the precenteges are down it means faster attack and release.
3. In Gain / Out Gain - This knobs is pretty self explanatory, when your signal is too low you can use to "In Gain" to adjust the signal level. If your signal is too high and you're clipping you can use the "Out Gain" to adjust the signal level.
We have our 3 bands - High, Mid, Low.
On the left side you can see the indicator for the ammount of the compression or expand. Negative values is compression. Positive values is expander (upward compression).
Inside the meter you have two color zones - Brown and Green. In between them you have a black zone. If you grab the black zone and move it around it acts as the Threshold of the compressor. If you move it towards the brown zone the signal is getting compressed. As you move it towards the green zone the signal is getting expanded (upward compressed).
Additionally near each band you have a knob - it is responsible for makeup gain
And last knobs - Upwd and Dnwd precentage. Those are ratio knobs. The ammount of upwards or downwards compression
