This album is the soundtrack to a film doesn't exist. A film starring Jack White and Norah Jones, set against the dusty, arid backdrop of semi abandoned movie sets in the Tabernas Desert.
Inspired by their love of Spaghetti Westerns, Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi spent five years making this album with a number of musicians who recorded soundtracks to those films, including Alessandro Alessandroni's Cantori Moderni, and, of course, Norah Jones and Jack White. Here's a great piece about the making of the album, it's definitely worth a read.
The cynic in me believes that Norah Jones and Jack White are only on this album to help sell it, and in my case it worked. I found out about this album when it was first released because I heard Jack White was featuring on it, I decided to check it out and ended up liking what I heard. Now, obviously I don't know the thinking behind featuring these two artists, nor do I care, the fact is that they perfectly fit the sound of this album. And Daniele Luppi succinctly sums up that sound when he says "It's a dark vibe, melancholic, a little foggy."
So sit back with a fine Italian coffee and a nice Toscano cigar and enjoy this homage to the masters of the Spaghetti Western sound.
And when you're done you can check out this delightful version of Season's Trees with Norah Jones.
Another day, another great album for us to enjoy. Let me know what you think of this one in the comments.
