About
As the name implies, the song is about 4 walls, more specifically the 4 walls of the apartment I lived in when I worked in Melbourne for 6 months. I was away from my fiancé, my friends and my home town (Bendigo) and it wasn't long before I felt like a prisoner whenever I was there.
I spent a lot of time working after hours because I was out on the fringe of the city, there wasn't really much to locally and I didn't really know anyone nearby.
Thankfully I had regular visits to look forward to, my then fiancé, now wife, Frida, would come and visit every couple of weeks. I wrote a song about those fleeting visits around the same time called Little Bird. I recently posted a version of Little Bird with some beautiful backing vocals by .
I also see this track as a nod to a grunge band from the 90's who inspired a generation and changed the landscape of rock forever, Nirvana.
Lyrics
Wearing your new disguise, you leave the hotel room
No-one can tell it’s you, you’ve got them all fooled
You take another step, now you’re out of sight
You cross the foyer, the sun is too bright
It’s tough to be alone
Familiar walls surround, you’re lying on the floor
You hear the noise outside, it’s hard to ignore
You’re getting tired, headaches and back pain
Photos and memories, keep you from insane
It’s tough to be alone
And will you go home now? There’s still so much to be done
And will you go home now? They miss you, they miss you
And will you go home now? There’s still so much to be done
And will you go home now? They miss you, they miss you
You’re getting tired, headaches and back pain
Photos and memories, keep you from insane
