I have written alredy about some of these musicians in my past posts, but I think never from out the perspective of being my main influences. Although I am a bassplayer for life :) it isn't only bass that gives me the drive and route I love to follow in musical life.
John Myung - Dreamtheater
I always have this discussion with my brother that bassplayers often think they are solo-players, not drum and bass but really like 'wannabe guitarists" ... I think that players like Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten etc. Could sound like that, But John Muyung for that reason from another level. He shows perfectly that in a band you can be 'that bassguy' and at the same time add so much more to the music. With his six string bass he doubles the guitar parts with John Petrucci without blinking his eyes. His way of playing and his genuine sound really inspires me. And last but certainly not least he is such a humble guy.
Gary Moore
For me the guitarist with the most compassion while he plays. Straight from out the heart. Just like you can recognize the sound of Brian May, it's the same (for me) whith the playing of Gary Moore. His bad-ass Les Paul (almost to much) overdriven sound. Just awesome. He inspired me with his playing for the parts where makes the songs and sounds so small, sophisticated and that often less is more... (or should I say moore). I had the pleasure to see him live once, he was support act for Tina Turner in Utrecht the Netherlands. Back then he played the 'blues alive' tour.... it was one of my highlights in live concerts.
Richard Bona
Richard Bona is a bassplayer orgin from Camaroon. Besides a excellent style and sound of bassplaying his vocals are just awesome. Besides that he is a great guy, in interviews and stuff. I have met him once at the North Sea Jazzfestival. Together with my good friend Danny Samar. Richard has such a great rythm and timing...
David Gilmour
One ot the most sensitive and recognizable guitar sounds..... A example for many guitarist... Floyd's music and David's guitarplaying is timeless and meant a lot for music in general.
Camel
Camel is a inheritance from my childhood. My father was a big lover of Symphonic Rock. Often at sunday morning he put on a record and just listened to it, with a cup of coffea, just enjoying the great sounds. Camel for me is a bit like David Gilmour. The guitarsound is one in a million and recognizable from without so many players :). And the emotion and feeling he puts in his music.... It's amazing, If I could only live the music a fraction of what they do I am a happy man :)... I saw them live once, together with my oldest brother and my father. It was a surprise for my father. It turned out to be a very emotional evening for him.... Shad a tear while they played this song, drafted.... Memory made.....
While listening and watching I realize that I ahve a lot of influences... I could name a few without a problem... Well, I wil continue in a next post....
For the time being, I am very currious who are your influences.
Have a great day,
Peter
