The last 9 days, I have spent in Berlin, the capital of Germany. It's a city full of creative people and I was lucky enough to be hosted by one of them. Thank you so much! @Mayb
It was my intention to make a micro documentary on her and to let this be the first stop on my creative journey. Creativity and life work in mysterious ways though. And things do seldomly go the way you expect them to go. That is exactly what happened.
Meike and I talked for many, many hours about so many different topics. There was loads of interesting footage that could have been recorded, but - most of the time - I either forgot to or didn't feel like turning my camera on.
There were many more reasons for all this but I don't feel the need to get into detail about them.
Instead let me cite the Tao Te Ching, a true book of wisdom, here:
The greatest perfection seems imperfect,
yet its usefulness is endless.
After 4 days at her place and having shot hardly any footage, Meike and I were sitting at the (breakfast) table. I was about to leave her place to visit a friend who I hadn't seen in over two years.
There were a lot of contrasting emotions going on in my - and probably also in her - mind. I felt like I hadn't lived up to my promise as I had hardly shot any footage of her. At the same time, I knew that we had shared so many great conversations and that the experience had been worth it for many different reasons.
I told her that I would love to record her while singing and playing guitar. Something we spoke about a couple of times. She replied that she wouldn't mind but needed practice first as it had been quite a long time ago.
She grabbed her guitar and started practicing and I got the sudden urge to start filming her right there, at that moment.
Meike had let me known, many times before, that she wouldn't mind me just filming her whenever she did things, but - until this moment - it often just didn't feel like the right thing to do.
As soon as she grabbed her guitar and started singing, I grabbed my GoPro, turned it on, put it down on the table and started recording the video that I decided to share with you now.
I decided to put it on here, in all its perfect imperfection. Uncut. With GoPro audio.
Meike only noticed at the end that I was actually filming her. She played the song with her eyes closed. It was a very intimate moment that she and I shared and I felt an intense energy afterwards as well as thankfulness for her sharing this moment with you.
If you read - and watch this - you can experience this moment too. As it's uncut, this will be as close to the experience as you could get, without actually being there in this exact moment.
Without further ado, here's the video of Meike singing. The song is in German. Underneath the video, you will find the lyrics that she herself translated to English.
Enjoy!
Here's the song's lyrics (translated to English by Mayb):
Gut, alles (fine, everything)
It's true
you're having lots of bad luck
a new day a new disaster
it's quite unfair
You're right
it's you to whom
is lately happening a lot of
crap
Everything that I could say
is what you don't wanna hear
and I know you know yourself
and this is exactly the worst
that in times of bad luck
you do know about luck
You know, once the clouds open up
and the sun comes out
you close your eyes
and then you open them up again
and everything you see
and everything you see
it's good … it's good, good, good
It's good … everything's good
You're thinking this is it for you
because what for and just where
should you even go
nothing makes any sense
Please don't give up, don't give in
don't go drowning in your doldrums
You know that you'll see it differently
as soon as you get out of it
You know, once the clouds open up
and the sun comes out
you close your eyes
and then you open them up again
and everything you see
and everything you see
it's good … it's good, good, good
It's good … everything's good
here, the musician kind of leaves the orbit, searches for the chords and seems to be out of control. What is she doing? Is this another song bending in? No, it's the C-Part. She forgot the bridge to that … well, look what's the next thing she is singing:
DON'T LOOK NOW (I swear, that's the lyrics here!!!)
don't listen
don't say anything
wait for it
it won't appear at once
when you're close to not believing in it anymore
then the skies rip apart and the clouds all move away
and everything you see
and everything you see
and everything you see
it's good … it's good, good, good
It's good … everything's good
Let me add a little comment here, on the part of the lyrics saying: DON'T LOOK NOW. This is the title of a 1973 film and one of my very favorite movies. It has been a recurring theme in my communication with Meike so it's amazing that it's actually part of this song, haha! The universe keeps surprising me.
If you liked what you heard, I recommend you to look and listen to two earlier (musical) posts by Meike:
