I don't know if the #MusicMonday tag is a new thing or if it's been going on for a while but I just found out about it from and
and I thought I'd join in!
I'm feeling a little bit jazzy today so I made a collection that I'm calling "User-friendly Jazz". A purist would probably rule out some of the songs in this list as not being jazz, but it's what I recommend to friends who want to get to know jazz but aren't quite ready for the "hardcore" stuff.
Esperanza Spalding
I have no words to describe her. Such a young talent! I really like her version of "Samba em Preludio", by Brazilian composer Baden Powell. She even sings it in Portuguese!
Buena Vista Social Club
This is a very interesting project by guitarist Ry Cooder with some legendary cuban musicians. Jazz meets latin music in this wonderful masterpiece!
Sade
I just love Sade. I think it's a great introduction to the world of jazz because she mixes a lot of musical influences resulting in a very easy listening musical experience. She has a long list of hits but I think she is widely known for Smooth Operator, which I love.
I really enjoyed putting this list together! Looking forward to next week!
