This is another song that formed my musical taste. This is a song that really sounds best with headphones because it has that "psychedelic" thing going on - meaning it has very cool stereo effects and it's made to be listened to all the way thru. It comes from the Moody Blues album "In Search of the Lost Chord", which is a thematic album: looking for the meaning of life and different paths to look for it. Adding to the acid trip context, this is about Timothy Leary's search for it with LSD and other psychedelics.
The Moody Blues began as a blues band and their first album was British blues/pop with a couple of minor hits. Their second album went way off the rails: "Days of Future Past" with Nights In White Satin and Tuesday Afternoon. This they did with a makeshift orchestra. On" In Search of the Lost Chord", they played all their own instruments and, as usual, did all their own writing. It isn't so much of a song as a musical piece. Something they did when music was not had in "bites." And (sounding like an old fart) is a song you'd hear between Led Zeppelin and CS&N on FM radio.
