Findings of primate fossils in the Pondaug area is Sagaing Region, Upper Myanmar have furnished evidence that at one time, primates from which evolved homo sapiens walked the land known as Myanmar over 4,000 million year ago. It has been postulated that Myanmar had their very origins in this land. Myanmar civilization arose, took shape and flourished through the ages.
Paleolithic and Neolithic cultutes flourished in many parts of Myanmar from about 20,000 years ago. Paleolithic culture is called the Anyanthian culture because the relics of this culture are found only in the Anya area. Neolithic implements are collected from the Kachin State, the Shan State, Central Myanmar, Thandwe and Myeik.
Some scholars assumed that Myanmar was devoid of bronze-age culture due to the lake of bronze-age site. The recent excavation at Naung-Kan bronze-age burial site substantially proves that bronze culture also occurred in Myanmar.
