The prehistoric people did not use watches, cellphones, TV, radio, and clocks to update the time. Rather they watch the skies to measure the time by the setting of the sun.
There is a Filipino myth too that long ago, the people had plenty of corn plantation and the sky was very short. The plant can just reach the skies so the farmers complained 'till they woke up in the morning that the skies went so high.
