The Holidays are here in SoCal and that means kitchens are in high gear.
Great food can put smiles on a bitter face. Since our group is local and all about building community, we thought the best way to build community is to get to know each other a little bit better. Every Saturday until December 24th, will post up a holiday delight to share with everyone in the hopes it might make it to your table to enjoy!
What better way to get to know each other than to have you show us Your Holiday Delight. Use the tag #socalsteemit on your post and drop a link to your post in the comments of that week. After December 24th a 'recipe book' post with all those yummy recipes will be shared that following saturday.
All entries will receive a 100% upvote from SoCalSteemit plus another 100% upvote when you link it in the comments below!
This weeks Holiday Delight: Home Made Eggnog
Egg Nog is one of those holiday delights that is either loved or hated by all. It has an acquired flavor. Most dont even think to make it as they can simply buy it at the store. Store bought eggnog flavor can defer greatly from one brand to the next so with a home made recipe, the flavor is always delicious every time. This recipe should be a starting point to making delicious eggnog and can be altered to fit your needs.
Ingredients
2 c. milk
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon, plus more for garnish
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
6 large egg yolks
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 c. heavy cream
1/3 c. bourbon or rum (optional) and Whipped cream, for serving
DIRECTIONS:
1 Combine milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla in a small saucepan over low heat. Slowly bring mixture to a low boil.
2 Meanwhile, in a large bowl, whisk egg yolks with sugar until yolks are pale in color. Slowly add hot milk mixture to egg yolks in batches to temper the eggs and whisk until combined.
3 Return mixture to saucepan and cook over medium heat until slightly thick (and coats the back of a spoon) but does not boil. (If using a candy thermometer, mixture should reach 160º.)
4 Remove from heat and stir in heavy cream and, if using, booze.
5 Refrigerate until chilled.
6 When ready to serve, garnish with whipped cream and cinnamon.
