Hi everyone ....This morning, Jonathan Van Fleet and Anthony Dover were running their trot line in Little River and came upon a rather large surprise. This Alligator Snapping Turtle had found itself in a rather peculiar situation by munching on one of the sunfish used as bait. This behemoth has an estimated weight of 85-100 lbs. The anglers did their best to safely remove the giant from the tangled line and were able to successfully remove the hook from it’s mouth. The turtle had a shell width of 24 inches and a length of 26 inches. The neck was measured at 23 inches around. The overall length of this turtle was over 4 ft. long. The “ancient angler” appeared to be in good health and was successfully returned to the Little River. Alligator Snapping Turtles are very dangerous to handle and it is advised that you use caution when dealing with them.
