Suddenly, he picked up a rich smell. Something he couldn't put his culinary finger on. It smelled somewhat sweetish, with a vegetable aroma to it. Could this be the smell people described before they witnessed the monster?
If so, it was a pretty sweet smelling beast, which might be a trick, to lure people to it. Much like the Sirens ( and their beautiful singing ) in Homer's Odysee. Or, perhaps, the creature was actually as sweet as its smell made you believe; a harmless beast, just afraid of human beings. The smell became more intense and the water started to slowly freeze his feet. Focus! he thought. This isn't the time and place for mind games! He opened his eyes and was back in the kitchen. His face was turned to an empty pan on the furnace. What he smelled, was the aroma of the pasta that he had eaten for lunch. To be more precise, the pasta sauce. Although he had done the dishes and washed the sauce pan, the smell was still there. He looked down and saw his naked feet on the kitchen floor. How long had he been standing here, lost in thoughts? No wonder he was cold.
The above is a small piece of what I wrote today, for NaNoWriMo. I wrote over 1800 words today, making it to a grand total of 5781. Not bad for three days ( I started a day early ) of writing.
It helped that it has been raining almost the entire day ( and night ). Last night it sounded like the floodgates were open, as if the man in the sky ( or whomever is controlling the weather or having fun with us humans ) turned the shower on full throttle. I woke up to find some water marks on my living room walls. I reached out to the contractor, who oversaw this year's renovations ( including a new roof ) on my house and he told me he will come over tomorrow morning. "Not too early", I replied. "It's a Sunday after all". Not that it matters to a guy without a day job who's 100% into crypto. It matters for someone who isn't an early bird though and, knowing this guy's habits ( getting up at 6am ), wanted me to make sure that he doesn't show up when I'm still 'on two ears' ( A Dutch expression for 'sleeping' )
I reread what I wrote. I need a synonym smell, to make the first alinea less repetitive. 'Scent' perhaps. Yeah, that will do.
Anyhow, this was just meant as a small update. It's night now and I feel like chilling a little. Kind of a shame that my twin sister borrowed my movie projector, as I'm stuck with a laptop screen now. Perhaps I will do some reading instead. Watching TV just doesn't appeal to me. Although I might practice my Portuguese by doing so for a while. Yes, for those who don't know me, I hardly do things without a purpose. Otherwise, it would just feel like a waste of time ;>)
Who knows, I might actually watch another episode or two of Bojack Horseman. It's - without a doubt - one of my favorite animated shows ever. Not just because it's extremely funny ( and my kind of humor ) and well written, but also because it's a satire on Hollywood and the movie industry / star system. Bojack Horseman can be found on Netflix and there's 6 seasons so far.
I will leave you know with the lyrics of this series theme song, composed by 'Grouplove':
( Singing voice ):
"Back in the nineties, I was in a very famous Tee-Vee Show, aa haaa.
I'm Bojack the horse [Bojack]
Bojack the horse
Don't act like you don't know
And I'm trying to hold on to my past
It's been so long
I don't think I'm gonna last
I guess I'll just try
And make you understand
That I'm more horse than a man
Or I'm more man than a horse
Bojack!"
I guess I need a song like that for Hypersensitivosaurus. A theme song for a book. Has that ever been done before?
