Native American tribes have been stewards of Bears Ears and relationships to these lands they call home. To many Native Americans the U.S. monuments are homelands and not an abstraction. Hopi, Navajo, Ute Indian Tribes, and Zuni reside with direct geographic link to these magnificent buttes and mesas as well as ancient spiritual connections. It was the Antiquities Act that was created to stop destruction of archaeological sites in the American west. The current proposed reductions are a clear attack on the archaeological heritage of the U.S.
