The simple premise that emotional blocks eventually manifest as physical symptoms and dis-ease in the body was what first drew me to this really excellent book. Or rather, drew it to me.
As is so often the case in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand (where good book stores are but a vague memory from that 'other' life), an intelligent western friend was decluttering and closing up her apartment and this book was among the "loot" she bequeathed to me, if you will. I do love the way the Universe constantly finds new and creative ways to meet my needs and gift me with books and things which deserve my attention.
Once you understand this basic plank of natural medicine - that emotions and thoughts manifest in the body - it becomes a no-brainer to study & practice yoga, acupuncture and acupressure, and learn the gentle art of safe release.
The book is really well sectioned into chapters, so you don't have to wade through seeming irrelevance to get to the issue quickly. And because of that, I consult it often. Overwhelmed? There's a chapter. Numbness? That too. And some really specific chapters on things like incest, depression, menstruation, nightmares and mood swings.
What's adds real value to the book and takes it ten notches above other acupressure material I have read and studied, is that most chapters close with a self care routine, which include things like stretches, diet suggestions and even the odd recipe. His Self Care Routine for Dietary Change is thoughtful, useful and incredibly practical.
The most interesting part on my first read through the book was the sheer number of emotional issues and conditions which can, and do, respond rapidly to a simple, physical healing modality. Michael Reed Gach has challenged my thinking a lot, and through his book has opened me to some new healing experiences which have been welcomed. Grateful beyond words.
Highly recommended.
If you want to buy this book for yourself, I always, always, always recommend buying from an independent book seller. My 12 year Amazon boycott continues. My two go-to sites for online sales are www.betterworldbooks.com (every purchase helps support world literacy programs) and The Book Depository. Yes, TBD has it in stock now with free delivery worldwide: here is the Link.
You can also find-buy this book, and others, through Michael Reed Gach's own Website.
He also has a ton of informative, simple to understand "how to" videos on youtube, like this one:
and over 11,000 subscribers. And yes, I'm one of those.
I LOVE acupressure because it's such a simple way I can help myself - anytime, anywhere - for no cost. By unblocking the emotional energy glitches as they happen, I am preventing future health complications. And ultimately, that's the best natural medicine of all.
