Because several asked for a garden journal of the gardens, I decided to do one. It’s real hard to keep the photos down to a reasonable number with so many gardens.
So I am starting with the vegetable garden as I’ve not been in there for a while and not posted photos. It’s starting to need weeded in the rows. This is looking northeast.
Big garden looking southeast
Outside of harvesting peas and mesclun, I’ve not even looked to see how things are doing.
Last harvest of sugar pod peas
I will have to pull them up and get the fence down and put away. It probably won’t happen until the green peas are done.
Green peas first harvest
I noticed the green peas had started when I was harvesting the sugar pods. So I got another bowl and harvested those. My intern and I shelled them Wednesday afternoon after we’d been out doing errands, while watching Victorian Farm. She had to go so I finished them. I got 4 pint boxes of pods for a total of 30 pints for the year. I got 3 pint boxes of peas.
A good project for the last really hot humid day.
The Small garden and the garlic is to be harvested in the next week
The Anne raspberries are producing now and I’m getting berries as big and nearly as long as my thumb.
The cold frame is nearly empty. There’s a few things to go into the New Herb garden, but most of what’s left is for flower beds.
New Herb garden after the thunderstorm
In the wildflower area, if you look at the center to the right, you can see a greener area. We think this is a deer bed. Not caught any in there, but the deer have been enjoying my elderberries. It’s got a path to it and is flattened in there.
When I was mowing on Tuesday I noticed a single Rudbeckia along the west edge of the wildflowers. No idea where that came from.

Little trees looking south
Little trees 10. York elderberry with tons of berries
Little trees – comfrey flattened by the storms
Little trees – 9. Contender peaches
I never did get any Juneberries again this year. All the elderberries are heavily laden with berries. I don’t know if I will be able to harvest them this year. My helpers have been in short supply.
The fence gardens that I was able to clear in April are doing well. They need weeded and tended but are doing ok.
This South garden for some reason isn’t as weedy as the others. The rest are a mess and I didn’t take photos of them. Good thing, as I already have 16 photos!
Tagging and
as I’ve not seen Nate’s gardens in a while.
So there’s my garden journal entry for July.
