As a member of the Shire's rescue team in helping the stranded community of Mordor, a further municipality of our town near the sea, bounded by a river to the Eastern side of town. The recent 250 kilometers per hour storm brought with it a couple of meters of water, overflowing the river and made the road unpassable for days now. A 911 call came in the morning from Mayor Saruman as their sick evacuees has grown in number with dehydration and influenza most especially to the elderly and the kids.
As a nurse volunteer Nurse Galadriel (errr that would be me!) and Dr. Legolas are both off from hospital duty, we will be accompanying the rescue team. As Legolas' medical kit will be full of hydration tablets, cough medicines, injections and what not, i reckon i might as well give a bit of class and bring some natural medicines that are more effective, as well as edible, giving both medicines and hydration at the same time.
Looking around our backgarden, i needed to bring at least 3 medicines that can sort of cover what most of the evacuees need:
Moringa / the Miracle tree
The latest i've read about Moringa that detailed its' packed benefits is from . With our scenario, i want it's anti-inflammatory properties and its' probability as an antioxidant against free radicals in the body.
Animal studies have resulted in Moringa having protein, iron, Vit. C, magnesium, and compounds against cholesterol and also can lower blood sugar. source
Moringa is a common tree in the Philippines, where its' leaves, flowers and pods are edible and are considered as vegetables. All 3 parts can be mixed in a stew, the leaves in a salad and the seeds i have seen being eaten raw in London from an African community.
Paragis
From this site Paragis listed some benefits of Paragis:
- Airway inflammatory processes
- Apoptotic induction activity
- Antiplasmodial/antidiabetic
- Nutritional potential/fodder
- Hepatoprotective/antioxidant
- Pancreatic Lipase Inhibitory Activity/Obesity treatment potential
- Anticonvulsant
Paragis I needed for its' specific airway anti-inflammatory effects, aside from its' other potential benefits. It's a wild weed that can be found anywhere in the Philippines. Although its' been listed as a nutritional potential, i have not seen anyone doing that.
Wild Mulberry
Thanks to for his knowledge about the wild mulberry as he very recently told me of the benefits from his experience of using this plant, namely for:
- fever
- cough
- flu
- wound bleed
An article about mulberry listed these benefits:
- contains calcium, iron and zinc
- anti-inflammatory
- antioxidant
- lowers blood sugar/cholesterol namely the LDL and triglycerides
Preparations for them can just be the easiest thing to do as they can just be brewed individually or together and taken as tea.
My mom's moringa and paragis tea combi.
This post is in response to 's "Survivor" challenge for last week. As it ends today, i had to move my butt and think of something or else! Best i could do
