Why is it important to know The Trivium? Then you don't have to "just google" it to solve a problem. You don't have to listen to the talking heads to tell you what is going on.
Instead, you can gather all the information yourself, process it and figure out for yourself what is going on and then make your own decisions.
Critical Thinking Skills; Knowing how to think; would be a very useful tool right now.
Knowing HOW to think, is a lot more important than knowing WHAT to think.
The Trivium
For the first hour tonight, we mixed colors. Mixing colors, is an act of the Trivium. The word Trivium, actually means, a course of 3 roads. We started with the 3 primaries, plus white:
Alizaran Crimson (cool red), Cadmium Red Medium (warm red), Cobalt Blue and Lemon Yellow.
This is the raw grammar. Then we mixed the first color, Purple, using Alizaran Crimson and Cobalt Blue, plus a little white = Purple, the complement of Yellow and also it's opposite. Next we mixed Lemon Yellow (and Cadmium Yellow Medium) with Cadmium Red Medium to produce a bright Orange and a more washedout Orange. More grammar - as Orange is the complement of Blue and also it's opposite. Next we mixed Lemon Yellow with Cobalt Blue which gave us a lovely light green and then we added a little dab more of Blue and that gave us a darker Green. Green is the complement of Red and also it's opposite. Now we have the Input ready to Process...
We started our paintings with this in mind...to experience the Trivium through art also adds in another element - Intuition - which can help you solve your problems in the process -
Woody Martin, Oil on Canvas, 11/21
Woody made a Literal painting of the Trivium, first starting with the 3 Roads - which actually turned out to be 4 Roads and introduced the topic of the Quadrivium.
This is because the 3 roads he created were many more than 3 roads - and so he talked a little bit about the Quadrivium in the process of Logic - in which you look at the problem you are trying to solve from the angle of arithmetic, geometry, music, and astronomy - in other words - 2 dimensionally, 3 dimensionally, with rhythm and vibration and from above. Also through the lens of Air, Fire, Water, and Earth - and then the product becomes your Output or Rhetoric.
This is a visual exercise in understanding how to use the Trivium to think things through critically like they did in the olden days when people were smart.
Woody started with a more literal visual and it became abstracted.
in2itiveart, Oil on Canvas Board, 11/21
Mine has 3 sections - and the theme was that it was about some problems I am weighing and worrying about - what kind of oil should I put in my car when I get the oil changed...how people are getting along in our community...etc..I used my left hand again so that it would bypass my finite mind. I don't need to rehash any of the old. The River was the first object that came into being...
Next was the yellow corner below, followed by the big Red spiral sun - the shoots growing up and the river with it's bubgbles and splashes - and the red flowering vine below...
Answered my problem - created my Rhetoric - my Output - wait and see - stay in the moment and when these things come to bear the answer will be waiting. Live in the unknown because life is always growing and changing and continuing to move expand - what you can count on is change and if you sit back and let it happen - it will happen according to the Rules of Life - and you get to bear witness to it - don't stress.
Sadly, no one showed up tonight - even though the offer was FREE with a suggested donation for the month of November. People just don't know what they are missing.
