Here at the Walkerland Homestead, our hearts are filled with gratitude for friendships both new and old. This has been a tremendous year for us filled with many lessons. We are grateful for the good and the bad that has come our way. Sometimes it's the hard lessons that offer us the most growth and I have come to appreciate this.
I feel a kinship to the weeds of our world. I too am stubborn, resilient and keep on reaching for the sun and growing. That is why this lifestyle nourishes me so much. It is the best sort of challenging. There is a constant need to keep learning. Every day is new, nothing is on autopilot. I am tuned in and witness to so many beautiful miracles every single day. There is so much to be happy about, we just need to slow down and pay attention.
Winter helps to remind us of the importance of slowing down. For us, this has been a time of reflection, and forest walks paired with simple winter chores. We eat less and sleep more, which is just what our bodies are asking for.
Tonight my husband plays the harmonica as I add hot water to a freshly gathered bundle of ingredients from our forest. This evening we send a toast to you with a mug of woodland tea: labrador tea (Rhododendron groenlandicum), rose hips, juniper berries, and pine needles.
Thank you for joining us on our journey, reading our words and for sharing your own stories with us. From our hearth to yours, we wish you a holiday filled with love and nourishment.
Warmest Wishes
