- Papilio plexippus Linnaeus, 1758
- Danaus archippus (Fabricius, 1793)

I shot some pictures today in Banda Aceh, Sumatra island, for Monarch butterflies while doing the intercourse process.
They do that in a back-to-back position between males and females. I shot 3 different perch locations for the butterfly. Unfortunately, I can't shoot when the two butterflies fly simultaneously in the position of copulation, they do not break away in intercourse.
Here is the animated Gif that was converted of my video footage.
The mating behavior of the various types of butterflies scattered throughout the world varies, butterflies will engage in varying courtship rituals. Of course they do that from their own species.
Thousands of butterfly species exist across the globe, but scientists have only studied the mating behaviors of a few species, said Antónia Monteiro, a butterfly researcher at the National University of Singapore, whose work focuses on butterflies in the Afrotropical genus Bicyclus. [2]
