Plants of the genus Colocasia are purely tropical species, for their optimal development requires the following climatic and soil conditions, for example; for photoperiod, the best development is achieved with periods of 11-12 hours light, this influences on some morphological aspects such as the number of leaves and corms, as well as the height of the plant.
▶ In terms of temperature, plants of the Colocasia genus produce good yields at temperatures from 12 to 30 º Celsius. This indicates that it is a crop that adapts to hot climates.

Average temperatures should be no lower than 20ºC, with the optimum being between 25-30ºC. Temperatures below 18ºC stop growth and photosynthesis is interrupted.
These species are favored in their growth cycle, development and production at altitudes from sea level to 1500 meters above sea level.
It requires loamy, sandy-clay loam soils. It is the only root and tuber crop that withstands stagnant humidity and can even be grown under flooding.
In terms of rainfall, the plants of the Colocasia genus need sufficient water so that they do not show stunted growth. However, it grows well in areas with well-distributed rainfall of 1,000 to 1,600 mm per year; it is a fairly demanding plant in terms of available soil moisture.
