To measure the temperature in a Bocashi type compost, you can use a normal thermometer or introduce a machete into the pile; if it is possible to keep the metal blade between the hands, the temperature is adequate. If the temperature exceeds 50°C, the pile should be mixed well to reduce the temperature and oxygenate the mixture. If the temperature still remains high, try to extend the pile to reduce the height and thus reduce the ambient temperature.
▶ Bocashi is ready to be used when it releases a sweet fermented smell and white fungi appear on its surface, for such purposes, in the quality reference tables the amount of nutrients in the Bocashi compost is shown.
