Among the main practices carried out in the cultivation of Colocasia is propagation, since the ocumo has traditionally been propagated vegetatively, thus ensuring the genetic uniformity of the clones, due to the existence of abundant buds in their subway structures and in the aerial part of the corm.

The corm portions are placed 6-7 cm deep, because closer to the surface produce numerous side shoots, which reduce yield.
As for the control of weeds, it has a critical period in the first six months, the preparation of the land for planting (plowing and raking), help considerably to control weeds.
Weed control is reinforced with the application of pre-emergence herbicides. As the plants need several hilling operations, these help to keep the soil clean.
Harvesting. In commercial plantations, harvesting is done 10-12 months after planting, when the foliage turns yellow and begins to dry. Harvesting is done by hand.
