In the place called ‘Bird Cave’, which is located in Vayots Dzor region of Armenia, as a result of the excavations of Armenian, American and Finnish archaeologists, the oldest shoe in the world, named ‘Areni 1’, was found.
The shoe, which dates back to BC. 4000-2600 period, is in excellent condition. It has a life of 5500 years.
According to archaeologists, the shoe's superb condition is due to the cool, dry climate of the cave. It is filled with grass, which is believed to have been made for keeping the feet warm. Now it is kept in the History Museum of Armenia.
