While out turning my soil over in my garden I came across an insect that I have never seen before.
This long yellow insect was crawling in front of my tiller and I stopped just in time as my blades were getting closer to the not so wise creature.
I bent down to take a look at what I had come across to discover a long yellow insect that I could only explain as a Centipede.
I didn't know what it was, I have never seen anything like it before and I like to think that I know my bugs in my garden.
I decided to pick it up and take a closer look, it had what looked like hundreds of legs it curled itself up into a ball and stayed still for a while.
I couldn't believe how long this little creature was and with my curiosity getting the better fo me I decided to do a little research into what it could be.
So my research brought me to a website called naturespot.org.uk it doesn't have a lot to go on but it gave me some facts that I found interesting.
Its name is
Western Yellow Centipede - Stigmatogaster subterranea
It is the longest centipede in the UK and grows up to 70mm long and has 77 to 83 pairs of legs, which is impressive, to say the least, can you imagine buying shoes for all them feet. lol.
It is amazing what you can find in your garden, this is the first time I have seen anything like this and I was happy to put it back in my garden as it doesn't really do any damage to plants, it likes old leaves so it is kind of like a woodlouse.
I wonder what else I can find in my garden.
until next time stay safe.
