Red Rock Canyon, NV
The next leg of my trip brought me to Las Vegas. Probably not the iconic image of the strip you were expecting, but I didn't venture into southern Nevada for the typical getaway. I was in search of finding beauty in the desert. This photo was taken after summitting Turtlehead Junior which is the highest point of Calico Hills at an elevation of 5,142 ft. These hills offer hiking, trad climbing, sport climbing, bouldering, and lastly my method of scrambling (walking up steep terrain involving the use of ones hands). After scrambling to the top with some friends, we were rewarded with this beautiful desert view of vibrant colors and crepuscular rays.
Behind us, a half rainbow formed and we were surrounded by amazing views. Sometimes it takes scaling up Aztec Sandstone before you realize there is beauty to be found in all climates and regions of the world.
