Ah, after a long day of traveling, I was looking forward to getting to the cabin that we had booked - I had an early night planned after watching the wonderful African sunset over the bush-veld of the Satara camp in the Kruger National Park.
However, once my head hit the pillow, this sight devoured all hopes of a peaceful sleep.
I can not say for sure what kind of snake had owned this skin before donating it to our cabins thatch roof, but what I can say is that it definitely did not belong to a small snake, and in all honesty, I had absolutely no intentions of entertaining this uninvited visitor (wherever the rest of him was).
Snakes in general are quite territorial, and if this specific snake was comfortable enough shedding his skin here the chances were that he was still close by. As a rule, I don’t mind snakes all that much, but this was a bit too close for comfort and I decided that an uncomfortable sleep in the vehicle trumped a sleepless night in the cabin!
