I got a bit out of order on the tour ! I realized that I forgot to cover the hike out from the Sperry Chalet. So here it is now. We hiked into Sperry the long way on the Gunsight trail, stayed two nights, and hiked out on the shorter 6-mile path to Lake McDonald. The below photo is looking at the Lake McDonald valley from the chalet.
All photos are my original work.
Hiking out begins though a filed of open shrubs and flowers. Ground squirrels and marmots are pretty easily found.
The trail quickly becomes forested and comes to a stream crossing.
We ate lunch by the stream here.
It is a lovely trail, but lacks the huge views that you see on other trails in Glacier National.
Toward the end, Lake McDonald comes into view.
This sign is right across the road from Lake McDonald Lodge.
There is a small store here as well.
We bought beer and waited for the bus.
Getting back to the car on the other side of Logan Pass required taking one bus to the pass, then transferring to an east- side bus.
And here is the bus! After we got our car, we headed to the Many Glacier area.
