I visited Belchin village recently, except for the fortress that I wrote about a week ago, but also to go to one low peak near it in Verila Mountain. I had spent the last month wandering in altitude between 1100m-2500m asl, mainly looking for opportunities to reach a higher point and without going lower than that, so my eyes were used to seeing only the dark green coniferous forests and the white(with a lot of dark spots already) mountains in the background. Belchin is at around 900m so I was quite surprise to notice the big difference in the intensity of the spring only 200m closer to the sea level. It was so much greener and colorful!
And being in a different forest was really nice for a change and I enjoyed seeing the different trees, flowers and colors very much so I did a couple more "low" hikes later and that was enough for a while. It was great, but probably I won't do another one soon, although there are more places like that, that I would like to explore. Even though they are beautiful, the steep paths that lead higher and higher and offer various views all the time, are always more exciting.
The pathway starts from the village, pass by the fortress "Tsari Mali Grad", after that by a hut, and then continue to St Peter Peak - only 1191m high, but with a great view.
The hut with an aerial picture of the fortress on the wall.
The peak St Peter and the view around of the mountains and some unknown other village. I've visited many times and even spent one night sleeping here in a tent last year. It is an amazing place to wake up.
As I mentioned in my previous post about Belchin, the storks are everywhere. You can see lots of them flying close above your head, searching for food on the meadows around the village or walking around peoples' yards! It is the village with the highest number of stork nests in Bulgaria.
Thanks for stopping by!
