It's pretty hot summer time here in the Philippines. All the time is the best time to grab a cold, refreshing beverage. Whether be a soda or juice. Or even a freshly opened coconut fruit. It is really refreshing and cool.
In a nearby convenient store, restaurant, coffee shop or fast-food chain, let's grab our favorite beverages. But please, let loose of the plastic straws. You've read it right. Return the straw. Instead, ask for a sipping lid or drink straight from the cup.
Strawless campaign is all over the places, and more and more companies are joining the campaign. One of which is the coffee giant and my beloved company Starbucks Coffee.
Oh my gee! how about the Frappuccino?!
Don't you worry, this coffee giant is already in search for the perfect straw that has less to zero plastic materials used and still not negatively affect its flavor.
But that is not our focus in this campaign of being Strawless. The focus is the environmental stewardship.
You probably watched this video that is currently all over the internet

This coffee giant aim to be 100% strawless by the year 2020, and it is now starting to take the road.
But Starbucks is not the pioneer of this act.
Adrian Grenier
It was Adrian of Lonely Whale Foundation who started the initiative of Strawless Ocean. This initiative is an action taken to prevent the more numbers of plastic straws in the ocean than fish by the year 2050. Currently, his foundation's goal is to eliminate 500 million plastic straws from the ocean which was being used and thrown every single day.
His initiative has reached the biggest companies that are relying through the use of plastic straws as part of service being offered. Through the mass of people creating challenges on social media, the message has reached them. By spreading the word through the hashtags of #StopSucking and #StrawlessOcean.
People are posting video and photo of a still-sealed plastic straws or a photo of reusable stainless straws and using the hashtags.

So how does this campaign triggered?

The poor turtle with a plastic straw stucked in nose all the way down to his nostril was found by the Sea Turtle Biologist. A plastic straw, our garbage, thrown in to the ocean because we suck.
This campaign has reached all companies that is using straws, plastic straw. And Starbucks is one of those who admittedly used 1 billion straws a day in all over the world. But pledge to act fast to eliminate the use of plastic straws by the year 2020.
Having a quote of minimizing the environmental footprints, this will be a huge action that the company wil be doing. Aside from pushing the use of personal cup or tumbler that is already happening in all over the company. This international company as well provided a huge amount of money for reasearching for the alternative to a plastic cup.
If a company like Starbucks is making a way to help the campaign despite losing some money, why not us? Every one of us SUCK everyday. And we suck big time. That is why plastic straws are present in each of our favorite restaurant of coffee shop. Because we asked for it.
Let's #StopSucking and help to provide a #Strawlessocean.
Reusable stainless straws are all over the online shops right now, if not, in your favorite cooler stop. They might have them available for you. Purchase some and sure will be use for the whole life.
Besides, ocean's creature are not the only ones who are affected by the trash plastic straws. Even us people. Floods, toxic are just the examples. I am sure all of us wants to live longer that if permitted, will live as long as we want. But how could that be possible if our beloved planet will just die before us just because of our unrully behavior.
It's about time, Steemians and Uloggers, let's now stop sucking and begin sipping.
This is , #StopSucking.
