Today in the morning it was raining heavily. In our early ages we learned the translation and called this type of rain as ‘cats and dogs’. However, on the way to my office, the roads are fully flooded with rain water. When my car stopped in front of my office, already the office care parking area flooded with rain water along with full of chemicals! In general rain water supposed to be transparent but I saw fully blackish water. You can understand from the below picture which was taken by my cell phone.
As a chemist I know how polluted this water is! The water contains full of hazardous substances which can cause cancer to the skin and internal body.
Blow mentioned some of the source of water pollution and immediate measure need to take.
Water pollution source:
Industrial waste: Industries are the major contributor of water pollution. Different industries wastes are thrown directly to water without proper treatment. As a result water body is polluted with harmful substances. These harmful substances include but not limited to Azo dyes, Carcinogenic dyes, Phthalates, APEO, Heavy Metals etcetera. Not only this polluted water mix with mainstream water body but also pollute underground water passing through the soil. As a result whole water chain is getting polluted from this industrial waste.
Agricultural effluents: Different chemical are used in agricultural purpose which finally cause water pollution. For the growth of plants many fertilizers are used and finally it go and mix with water. Among those pesticides are the most harmful which is being used to save the plants from various insects. Pesticides mix with water is very harmful for both fishes and human.
Oil and oil base pollution: Due to some accidents in waterways water pollution occurred. It happened many times due to some oil tanker collision between two ships or sink deep into the sea. It is dangerous as there is no way to collect those oils 100% from water. During ship transport in sea or river it also releases some oils in water which pollutes the water body.
Heavy metal pollution in water: Now-a-days many nuclear tests are happening resulting serious heavy metals releasing to environment. Gradually these heavy metals are mixing with the water as a condensation form which effects and pollutes the water.
Domestic waste: Though it is minor but causing water pollution from this domestic water. Domestic water using for bathing, household works, cleaning etc going to the water directly without treatment which is causing water pollution.
Solution:
Awareness is the main solution. We have to responsible and commit not to pollute water from our individual position. If we avoid small and minor bad habits, water pollution can be reduced. From the authority there is high responsibility to prevent water pollution. Water treatment plant in industries need to set so that no polluted water can be discharged to the mainstream water body. Lawmakers should ensure the punishment if any violation happens. Then only it is possible.
Last but not the least, water is our living source. So, we should not destroy this source. If we cannot protect our fresh water from the pollution, living on this planet will be difficult.
