We bought our little shack upstate when our eldest son (now five 5 years old) was only wee. We went up to check it out and he was so excited to be out of the polluted rat race of New York City and get a chance to experience the great outdoors, he started flapping his wings like a bird.
“We’ll take it,” we told the lovely couple selling their 3 room bungalow.
This is our first “house” and all kinds of things have broken from the plumbing to the floors, but it’s such a joy to be there with the kids and so fun to repair the odds and ends, all the while learning how to make things work, we’re delighted with the choice.
It’s funny how we never know what’s going to happen next and when it becomes commonplace to us it’s hard to see how magical our reality is.
I feel very specifically lucky to get to spend time up there.
