My wife and I have wanted a kayak for a few years. It took some planning to figure out where we could store one and how we'd transport it. This summer, we finally splurged and bought our first kayak. We live in Nebraska, so have only a few months to (comfortably) kayak in our area.
These pictures were taken in July, when Piper got to go kayaking for the first time. Piper is our rescue dog, a mix of breeds that we'll never know for sure. We are almost certain that she is at least part lab and part beagle. I like to call her my "water spaniel," but the truth is that she is pretty hit or miss when it comes to aquatic adventures.
Piper has a habit of planting her front feet right on the ledge of whatever she is standing near or on. This was no different on the kayak. It took us a while to get used to paddling with her perched precariously on the ledge. The above picture was taken just a little while after she accidentally slid off and plunged underwater for a few seconds.
Despite the fact that she wasn't expected to paddle at all, she acted pretty exhausted afterward. I tried to take a photo with her in the back of the vehicle, but she was so relaxed on the back seat that she wouldn't even poke her head out the window.
