You come to realize it is a matter of perspective.
We humans tend to think at first that we are all so mighty and powerful; now whenever we start looking into the space that every night brings us onto, we might be brought to our senses by realizing that size is an overwhelming physical property.
So, for starts and so we can all be on the same playing level field, allow me to put some numbers we’ll be using here in this post:
Let’s assume for all intents and purposes (geeeee I love writing like this as I am no scientist LOLOLOL) that all will be treated like spheres.
- Speed of light: 300,000 kms/sec
- Earth circumference: 40,075 kms (if get on a beautifully light car, can go around the earth 7.49 times in 1 second)
- Distance to Sun: 149,600,000 kms. (if I borrow the same beautiful car from above can travel from sun to earth in 498 secs. = 8.31 mins.)
- What do scientists call this unit above of 149.6M kms.? They call it 1 AU (one astronomical unit)
- How many kms travels light in 1 year: 1 Lyrs. = 63,241.1 AU = 9,460,868,560,000 kms.
- Size (diameter) of Oort Cloud (furthest away from Sun objects that circle it): 100,000AU = 1.58 Lyrs.
- Size (diameter) of our Galaxy Milky Way: 100,000 Lyrs.
- Milky Way is part of the Local Group which are, some say over 30 Galaxies, others say over 54 galaxies; size (diameter) of the Local Group: 10,000,000 Lyrs. Want to figure out how much is this in kms.? Multiply this number by 9,460,868,560,000 and well we start running out of paper and ink.
- A bunch of galaxies, arranged in groups make up the Virgo Supercluster; size (diameter) of the Virgo Supercluster = 110,000,000 Lyrs.
- Laniakea Supercluster holds all above with about 100,000 galaxies including the Milky Way; size (diameter) of the Laniakea Supercluster = 520,000,000 Lyrs.
- Another bunch of Superclusters like the Laniakea, ie., Shapley Supercluster, Hercules Supercluster, Coma Supercluster and other, make up the observable universe which is estimated has a diameter of 93B Lyrs.
The lines show most probable way forward of galaxies
Why now it is said observable universe? Because if the big bang happen 13.9B yrs ago, the “true size” of the entire universe -observable and nonobservable- could be about 250 x 93B Lyrs.
What is the point of all of the above? WE HUMANS. Nothing stops us in our tracks as a newborn; makes us stand in wonder just to admire that creation. People stand by wiling to protect at all cost. The cry makes all surrounding ones to question our own existence, what is this little one going through. It is the guarantee of the continuation of the human species and by nature we are designed to protect them no matter what. This is real POWER. There are no words to describe its immensity. Its size is unimaginable.
