So yesterday, while taking our 4 year old son to t-ball practice, I decided I am over winter. It was in the low 50's but the wind chill made it seem much colder. Then the rain started to sprinkle about 30 minutes into the practice, so I wanted nothing more to be back in my warm vehicle rather than a chilly baseball field, watching the kids shiver.
That lead to my latest poem, a call for winter to move along and make way for the warmer weather of spring.
Goodbye Winter
Go away with your drab landscape.
Bare branches of dying trees,
Ice forming on every home,
Threatening snow looming in the clouds.
Teeth chattering,
Cold wind biting,
I wave goodbye,
Bidding you farewell.
I long for spring,
The bright rays of sun,
Warming the ground,
A toasty blanket cuddling the land.
The fresh smell of green grass,
Lifting our renewed spirits,
The delightful sound of birds chirping,
Pulling our lips upward into smiles.
