These Flycatchers favor protected places like under bridges, in barns, in culverts, or in other artificial sites.

They are one of the first to arrive in Spring to start their nesting. Almost every year a pair will build a nest under my carport. Sometimes they will abandon it for whatever reason. This year they have stayed but I do disturb them every time I have to use my Jeep or just walk in front of the area.

Besides being a cute little bird to see around the yard, they are very useful in eating an assortment of flying insects. In my case horseflies. In hot humid weather the horse flies can be ferocious. But when the Phoebes are around no horseflies. They also are said to eat ticks.
