Watch this video I got of a flock of American White Pelicans at The Celery Fields in Sarasota, Florida. At around the one minute mark a White Pelican swims in front of a Great Egret, some Roseate Spoonbills and a Snowy Egret. From this, you can see how really big the Pelican is!
Around the seven minute mark, you can see how American White Pelicans feed. They gather up fish in a shallow area and plunge their huge beaks into the water to get the fish. They don't dive down from high in the sky like Brown Pelicans. I have always wanted to see this behavior and I can't believe I actually got it on video!
