It is hard to get out of bed these days. not because I am lazy I am amazed at the weather condition in my country. We are used to the smiling sun most of the time in the day and just a moderately cold night. As it is now I try to cover up my body with clothes and blankets at night yet I feel cold, I shut all the doors and windows yet cold still finds it's way in. I wonder if there are some holes around I have not noticed but I do not see any.
We have been told in geographic terms that it is called APHELION PHENOMENON, a situation where the earth will be far from the sun, which will last the whole August. I am not a geographer so I can not exactly understand how this happens but I really feel the impact. I can not wait for this to be over.
Nigeria has not had this extent of windy weather, at least not in my days. Sometimes I try to look around to be sure I did not travel somewhere else unknowingly. But I still see all that I am used to.
Taking a bath used to be fun.these days it is a bit scary. I used to bathe cold water at will but now, it feels like ice on my skin. I have to heat water, and sometimes when I check how hot it is, I ask myself if it's for my bath or for skinning a chicken.
Now I have to chase my kids all around the house just to get them to take a bath. And as for going out, it used to be enjoyable, today I f I had a choice I prefer to be shut indoors with my kids making sure to lock all the doors and windows. I never knew cold weather could make one so humble.
Then I began to wonder if I could cope overseas. I have had dreams of going overseas. Is this really how cold weather feels? Should I cancel my dream of traveling overseas?
These few days have given me a reason to respect the folks over there. You guys are trying a lot. I don't mind you telling me more about how it feels to be in a cold region. I would also like advice from you on how to cope with the cold. Over to you in the comment section.
