At sunrise and sunset the sun seemed very low in the sky, which means that the radiant beams of the sun that we see has travelled through a number of a much thicker atmosphere.
Because blue light is scattered more strongly by the atmosphere, tend to be scattered several times and deflected away in other directions before it gets to us. This means that there is a light that is relatively more yellow and red left for us to see.
