The Marin Headlands
The Pacific Ocean
In the fall of 2016 I visited my family and friends in San Francisco. One dreary morning we decided it would be fun to go check out the Marin Headlands. I'd already been there a couple of times before, but there's a lot to see and it's worth exploring multiple times. Plus the weather was so moody, I thought it would make for some cool photography! :)
The Marin Headlands is located just outside the city across the Golden Gate Bridge. It's a peninsula with towering cliffs that provides excellent views of the city and the Pacific Ocean. There are several historic military structures scattered around the hills. We explored what appeared to be an old pillbox that was built right into the face of the cliff.
The view from inside the pillbox.
It's a fascinating place to explore. As we continued hiking around the cliffs, we saw some dramatic rock formations down below.
Epic rock faces. There is even an arch at the bottom right part of the frame.
If you are visiting the San Francisco Bay Area and looking for something fun to do, I highly recommend exploring the Marin Headlands!
